are you moving to phuket? (i am probably missing something….but if not…) THIS IS BRILLIANT! phuket is 2.5 hours away from us and a direct flight! and they have brilliant department stores (Way better than hk) and hospitals, etc!
i am confused…and excited, so please clarify!
ps – i hear you on the friends leaving…we’re losing two sets ourselves…
Well, Tess, we are at the point where we are looking around. pay is better at this company and we have heard the same about the standards there. It is much more ‘civilized’ than here, is what we were told! There is a company hiring right now but i don’t know if gerry will be able to split too quickly, it is a good consideration and i seem to spend a bit of time thinking about it from my perspective. schools, medical, dental, infrastructure, food, safety, housing, language barriers etc etc etc…it’s kinda overwhelming! it’s wonderful to think that if we were in Thailand, you guys would be around the corner..sorta!

language barrier wouldn’t be a problem, most locals have a very fair grasp of english given the island’s dependence on tourism.
the expat community is massive, there are many international schools. cost of living is v. reasonable, but then again i am comparing it to here!
as for medical and dental, bangkok has the best and cheapest medical hospitals in the world, one of them was featured on 60 minutes. check out http://www.bumrungrad.com. that’s not an issue. everyone in hk & japan goes to thailand for their medical issues (& cosmetic surgery too).
